A World Record?
Standing over eight feet tall and holding 125 to 135 pounds of bird food, we believe Bill Cote may just have the world's largest bird feeder.
Ridge Bird Feeders has filed for consideration with the Guinness Book of World Records™ and we are waiting to hear the official word.
As of December, 2005, there is not a stated record for this category.
We'll keep you posted!
***UPDATE***
We have received confirmation that our record attempt has been accepted by Guinness World records™ and we should have an answer in about four weeks. It is a new category and we feel confident of the record. There was some confusion with their requirements but all the forms have been downloaded and we are back on track!
***UPDATE***
On July 17th we received the ok from Guinness™ to make the attempt for
the largest bird feeder by volume. We rounded up our witnesses Karen and
Bird Man Bob from WERU radio in Orland Me. We also contacted WABI TV in
Bangor ME. and they showed up. We took the feeder down Took all
pertinent measurement, measured all the dimensions, weighed the seed and
filled the feeder. We also had to compare it to the smallest feeder that
we make to the large one.
The smallest held 6 3/8 lb. and our large one held 136 1/4 lb. All the
witness statements, pictures and a copy of the video were mailed off to
Guinness™ and hopefully we will hear soon.
***UPDATE***
On 8/ 23/ 06 we received an email from Guinness™ that our claim package
had been received. We were informed that it could take up to another
eight weeks to hear from them. It is interesting that this whole process
has taken a little over one year!
***UPDATE*** 12/04/06
We received notification today that, after a year, we have been awarded a
certificate from Guinness World Records™ for the world's largest bird
feeder (Volume of food that can be stored)!! Will we try and make another larger one?
